MiEV Technology

MPGe and MiEV. Two sweet new acronyms.

MPGe stands for "miles per gallon equivalent." It's a new ranking system developed by the EPA to measure the efficiency of electric/alternative energy vehicles, much like "miles per gallon" explains the efficiency of gas-powered vehicles with a simple number.

So what does our EPA-leading 112 MPGe9 rating tell you? It's rather good news. It means that the energy present in one gallon of gasoline (if you converted that gallon into electricity) can send the Mitsubishi i a whopping 112 miles. That's not only astounding, it's the reason why we scored first-place honors in the EPA's annual Fuel Economy Guide for 2012. And it's all thanks to our super-efficient MiEV operating system. There's more on that below.

It's all about the operating system.

The eco-friendly heart of the Mitsubishi i is an integrated management system we call Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle (MiEV) technology. The result of four decades of research, the central MiEV operating system constantly monitors and optimizes the flow of energy throughout the car.

The result is an exhilarating blend of performance and economy in just about any driving condition. MiEV technology creates smooth and constant acceleration. It distributes incoming energy from the regenerative brakes. And it continually regulates the output from the battery. Simply put, MiEV is an automatic copilot that ensures all systems are, well, green.

Based upon various EPA testing methods using different driving conditions and climate controls; the EPA rated the Mitsubishi i with a driving range of 62 miles per charge. Actual range will vary depending on driving/charging habits, speed, conditions, weather, temperature, and battery age. Gradual loss of battery capacity will result with time and use.

Thanks for your interest in the Mitsubishi i.

Based on 2012 EPA Annual Fuel Economy Guide mileage estimates. Nissan Leaf rated at 99 MPGe. Mitsubishi i rated at 112 MPGe. Actual mileage equivalents may vary.
Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your owner's manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
